Is this the year disco takes over Ibiza as Carwash arrives to revolutionise Saturday nights at El Divino, and with Horse Meat Disco hosting parties in the Zoo on the outskirts of San  Antonio, disco is the new buzz for summer 2009.  Carwash explodes its flamboyant and funky party style at early evening parades headed up by Disco's Revenge divas in space disco outfits, bubble guns and a mobile projector  throwing  Carwash graphics onto walls, white shirts, and anything else that comes into their path.

Carwash, the main event at El Divino launches on Saturday June 27th. and get in the mood at the pre-party running weekly at the Upmarket Lounge in San Antonio.

As well as the classic disco sounds, Carwash is incorporating the sounds and stars of the London and Parisian disco underground scenes, including from the London disco underground special guest DJ, Danny Clark from Late Night Audio/Horse Meat Disco, The Disco Kid and Jo Lovely playing a couple of sets + guests slots from Jerome Ko and Disco Tourists from the Paris underground disco scene.

Carwash promises a hedonistic blend of the best in disco music with island favourite, Gordon the Trumpet Man back on board to give the Carwash parties a blast and that's before we mention the Exclusive Sister Sledge dates on Saturday July 4th and 11th! Yep, the world's best-loved disco sisters make their debut in Ibiza with two electrifying sets at Carwash, uniting the island in one throbbing disco groove. And Carwash keep piling on the treats with Live sets to come from Kym Mazelle on August 15th and Shena on August 1st.

As London’s longest running clubbing event and the world's only international Disco club brand, Carwash, is working with their rather stylish Parisian counterparts and some of East London’s best Disco DJs to bring this electrifyingly cool new Disco revolution to the white isle of Ibiza for Summer 2009. Carwash has evolved to encompass this new scene, joining the disco dots between the classic and the nu sounds (later in the evening), and with its status worldwide is set to explode disco onto the Ibiza scene this summer.

We speak to Carwash promoter Nigel ahead of his opening party in Ibiza:

1. How did Carwash decide to take disco to ibiza this summer ?

I thought it was about time Ibiza had a break from hard electronic music. It is an act of mercy really.

2. You've got Sister Sledge for 2 parties and how do you think that's going to go are the girls excited  and have they been to Ibiza before?

Of course they are very excited, As I am to have them here. I think they know that there is a new Disco scene brewing, and they know that Carwash, Ibiza and Sister Sledge is a great way to help it along

3. You are also bringing over some of the nu disco talents from London and Paris and can you let us know how that came about and how you think it will add to the Carwash nights?

The French have always been in love with Disco, artists like Dalida, Serge Gainsgourg, Dimitri From Paris, and they took to Carwash like ducks to water. Like the DJs creating the NU Disco scene in London, the Carwash Paris DJs have been producing their own disco re-edits for a while.

In London, with 3:30 closing times we do not really have time to develop the music from the party to the late night groove. At El Divino we have the chance to go on a real journey,  opening the party with a classic Carwash party vibe (Odyssey Chic Sly and Family Stone etc) before getting into a mix of deeper disco and Disco House remixes, which should work really well. Carwash has always been very party central and the Nu Disco solid deep groove will add another great dimension to the party.

4. In a scene which is full of house nights, how do you think Carwash will go down and will disco appeal to the younger crowd also?

Carwash has always attracted a lot of young people: it is a mistake to think that they all want electronic music, but at El Divino where the crowd is international, mixed ages and straight/gay mix, Disco appeals to all those groups. Regulars to the island and residents will love our night as they long for a real alternative to electronic music.

5. Will the club be full of dressed up clubbers - what are you encouraging clubbers to wear

I always ask people in London to wear colourful party club wear, nothing you would wear to the supermarket, pub or office party. If it is retro, so much the better but no rented fancy dress. In Ibiza, people generally dress colourfully to go to Pacha and El Divino, and I expect no less of them on our night, but we will not have too strong a dress code here. People cannot pack their whole wardrobe when they go on holiday, especially if they go on Ryan air.

6. Do you think launching Carwash in Ibiza will give the summer club season an injection in the arm?

Would that be too much to say? Certainly, from the talks I have had so far with locals and workers, who have done a lot of Ibiza clubbing, they are delighted to have an alternative to the normal diet of electronic music. It may be a push to say that more people will come to Ibiza now because there is Disco music on the island, but our music policy, and El Divino's affordable drinks policy fly in the face of tradition here, and I think both could be very welcome.

El Divino are selling as many drinks tokens at the door as you want  at €5.00, all drinks inc. Vodka Red Bull.

7. Are you an Ibiza veteran or is this all new to you and how excited are you about spreading the Carwash disco revolution?

There is no short answer to this one! After 2000, I started leaving  Carwash to my partner Neil for the summer months as I had bought a 20m  wooden boat with Twisden, the owner of the Hanover Grand, our host venue at the time. I took the boat to Ibiza to charter it. After a couple of years I realised that other peoples boats are always the best, and started skippering over here, as it offered all of the fun bits and none of the pain. This has now developed into a charter agency which takes less of my personal time, so I thought I would enjoy playing music out here again. That really is the short answer. Oh yes, www.dreamboatsibiza.com

8. Are there any special surprises we can expect from you guys ? are  you doing a pre-party or parade ??

Of course, We have Gordon the trumpet man joining us again. He had  retired from going trumpet playing to push his DJ work, but as he started out with us, and had great fun with us in Es Paradis, he is going to join us as a special favour as a regular this year. There is also Sister Sledge, Shena, known for her house tunes has now gone full time Disco and will be joining us for at list one gig, and Kym Mazelle will also be with us. We will be doing parades with Disco's Revenge Divas in space disco outfits, bubble guns and a mobile projector showing the stunning Carwash graphics on walls, white shirts, and anything else we pass by.
